Fighting Wear and Tear when handling abrasive materials

Clamshell grab

In order to extend the lifespan of your grab, NEMAG uses first-class wear-resistant steels like HARDOX 400-450 as well as DILLIDUR 400-450. These brands of wear-resistant steel are leading in the industry.

Even when using these high-end steels, abrasive bulk materials like ore, minerals, gabbro, and stones will result in relative fast wear of the cutting edges and lower part of the grab shells.

In order to further extend the lifespan of your equipment in such situations, the use of extra wear-resistant materials in your grab is economically feasible.

The application of special, extremely hard-wearing plates and wearing strips are very effective ways to increase the life span of your grab (sometimes up to 2 times the normal life span)

The hard facing lip plates are applied to our grabs by means of our welding robot.

Investing in fighting wear pays off!

  • the reliability of your grab is guaranteed for a longer period of time
  • significant reduction of maintenance costs
  • less spillage of expensive bulk material
  • less cleaning up costs to clean up spilled material on the deck of the vessels

Our Nemag specialists will gladly advise you on the possibilities in your specific situation.
